All telephones & telephone lines are examined using a range of different instruments to check for after-market modifications that would allow transmissions via the telephone / telephone line to be monitored, even whilst not in use.
This check extends from the telephone handset through to the switching equipment, and entails the phones being dismantled & inspected any foreign devices or non-standard wiring.
